ARVÉ / APPROACH

From everyday life to spatial decisions.

Before deciding what a home looks like, we want to understand what a day in it feels like.

FROM QUESTIONS TO DECISIONS

  1. 01

    Routine before plan

Follow a day through arriving, setting things down, cooking, resting and working. Distinguish activities that overlap from those that need quiet.

Small routes matter: where shoes land, how groceries arrive, and who wakes first. These differences help shared space respect private time.

  2. 02

    Read the site over time

Consider light, airflow, noise, rain and neighboring views before placing openings.

Read the site in morning light, afternoon heat and rain. An appealing view may become hot or wet; eaves, filtered light and drainage need to work together.

  3. 03

    Compare alternatives

Make the tradeoffs in layout and circulation visible. A compelling image is only one part of the decision.

Each option explains what grows, what gives way and which spending matters first. Plans and atmospheric views make these decisions easier to discuss.

  4. 04

    Develop the everyday details

Consider thresholds, handles, storage and maintenance alongside atmosphere and material selection.

Details should remain serviceable: access a pipe without dismantling a cabinet, replace worn parts and clean joints easily.

A CLOSER LOOK

Materials have work to do.

Surfaces we touch, edges exposed to rain, and parts that may need replacing are all part of a material decision. We consider these details alongside the character of the whole space.
