Explain why a reference image matters
Identify what you like in an image—and what would not suit your use of the space.
Choose a few images that explain different subjects: light, materials, storage or a garden connection. Add a sentence beneath each. “Soft light on the table” says more than “I like everything.”
Separate atmosphere from building form. You may like calmness without wanting a fully glazed wall, or appreciate timber while needing less maintenance. State what does not suit you so the design does not follow an image at the expense of everyday needs.
Keep source links and authorship where available. A reference helps communication; it does not grant permission to copy architecture, logos or photographs.
Discuss which elements to explore, which need adaptation, and which require investigation. The image becomes the beginning of a conversation.
